Lead Designer

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who eats, sleeps, and breathes design. You would be leading the design of OTT projects across web, TV and mobile. Working closely with the Creative Director and Product Lead to scope design work and see it through to execution and completion. You will manage the design team, helping Junior and Mid-Weight Designers to grow and develop in their career, sharing your knowledge and offering them guidance. You would be involved in client-facing meetings to scope projects, present UX & UI screens and communicate ideas and concepts. You would also be heavily involved in running workshops and design sprints alongside the Product Lead.

What are your responsibilities?


  • Facilitate great work ensuring the design team is set up for success, supporting them throughout the design process to delivery of projects.
  • Ensuring there is a clear line of communication between the Design Team and Project leads.
  • Working closely with the Project Managers to plan and allocate design resource across multiple design projects.
  • Run daily design team meetings, making sure the team is clear on what they will be working on for the day and collaboratively reviewing work.
  • Supporting three designers in the team, setting them tasks and project milestones.
  • Mentor and inspire the design team helping them to progress in their role and career.
  • Running monthly one on one meetings with your team members as well as quarterly appraisals to ensure people are growing professionally and being supported personally.
  • Keeping a pulse on multiple design projects throughout the agency ensuring projects are being delivered on time and in line with the client’s expectations.


Product Design

  • Running discovery workshops with the Product Lead and client teams to bring alignment on a projects scope, creative direction and design requirements to shape statements of work.
  • Regularly running design sprints.
  • Capturing user insights and overseeing user testing sessions with the design team to inform product & UX decisions.
  • Providing support to the design team helping them to develop and ideate UX and UI solutions.
  • Attend daily client stand-ups, providing project updates on design sprints, encouraging the design team to present their work.
  • Lead handover meetings with the development team to ensure they have a clear understanding of the user experience, functionality and front end enhancements.
  • Working closely with the QA team and Product leads reviewing work throughout a project’s lifecycle.


Agency Growth

  • As the agency continues to grow you will play a significant role in scaling the design team and developing processes that allow new team members to fit in quickly and follow our design approach.
  • Working closely with the Creative Director and New Business team to help scope new opportunities from a design perspective and provide creative for pitches.
  • Regularly reviewing our design process and identifying areas for improvements.


  • Minimum 5+ years experience (preferably in agency)
  • Must have a strong understanding of digital, always ensuring designs are feasible from a technical point of view, with support from the development team.
  • Organisation skills, clear at setting realistic deadlines and sticking to them.
  • Enthusiastic to adopt new technologies and design processes for emerging platforms.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • An outstanding portfolio of only your best work.

Job Details

  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm
  • Location: FX Digital’s office are situated within the Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, East London (this role is a remote one for now, with the option to come into the office post-lockdown)
  • Starting Salary: Depending on experience, £40k – £45k per year

Interview Process

If you’re asked for an interview, great! Initially, we jump on a quick call to provide more information on the role to ensure it’s a good fit.

After this call, you may then be invited to an interview. During the interview, we want to get to know you, tell us about your passion for design and goals for the future.

We are looking for you to provide examples of where you have managed and lead design teams. We are keen to hear about your experience handling UX projects and collaborating with development teams, as well as your experience managing client communications.

We will also be asking you to present your portfolio. We would like this to be tailored around a digital product where you can talk in-depth about the discovery and planning phases of the project through to execution and how you managed a design team during this process.

After the interview stage, we may then set you a design challenge which would be arranged in a separate session.

Once you have passed the design challenge you would then be invited to a culture fit interview.
