Bringing BritBox to Amazon’s New Vega OS Platform
A rapid, two-phased delivery that brought BritBox to Amazon’s new Vega OS in time for launch—combining a strategic web fallback with a fully native, high-performance application built on an emerging SDK.

The Challenge
When long-standing client BritBox approached FX Digital to bring their popular streaming service to Amazon’s brand-new Vega OS, we faced a unique set of challenges. The launch date for Vega OS devices was unknown but imminent, and with no room for delay, we needed to deliver quickly and strategically to ensure BritBox would be available to users on day one.
The Solution
To meet the tight timeframe, our team devised a two-phased approach. We first focused on developing a web-based Vega OS application, leveraging an existing BritBox web app that FX Digital had previously deployed on platforms such as Comcast Xfinity and Vizio.
Within just three weeks, our developers had successfully adapted and loaded the web application into a Vega OS webview and submitted it for Amazon’s review. This rapid delivery would give BritBox a strong early presence on the platform in the event of an earlier than expected launch, and allowed us to continue development on a native Vega OS application in parallel.
Once Amazon confirmed approval of the web-based build, the team shifted full focus to building a React Native application using Amazon’s new and rapidly evolving Vega OS SDK. Working closely with BritBox and Amazon’s development teams, FX Digital’s engineers, designers, and QA specialists pushed the limits of the SDK to deliver a seamless, performant experience.
The Results
In the end there was no need for our web based application as the native BritBox Vega OS app was completed and rigorously tested in time for the official launch in October 2025, making BritBox one of the first applications to go live on the new Amazon devices.
The result was a robust, high-performance streaming experience that fully embraced Vega OS’s native capabilities. Along the way, FX Digital’s QA team also established automated testing processes for Vega OS applications, expanding our London lab’s testing suite to include Vega OS devices – ensuring long-term efficiency for future projects.

The Impact
BritBox’s presence on Vega OS from launch day reinforced its position as a leading international streaming platform, ready to reach audiences across new Amazon ecosystems. For FX Digital, the project marked another successful delivery in partnership with BritBox and highlighted our ability to innovate under pressure, adapt to emerging technologies, and deliver premium applications across an expanding landscape of connected TV platforms.
