The global streaming and broadcast landscape is evolving fast. Audiences expect intuitive, personalised experiences that make content easy to discover and access, wherever and however they choose to watch. At the same time, operators and broadcasters need to deliver those experiences reliably and securely across an increasingly fragmented landscape of devices, platforms and viewing environments.
Solving that challenge takes both strong platform technology and the specialist design combined with application expertise built on top of it. That’s why our partnership with Synamedia, a leading provider of video software solutions, works so well.
While Synamedia provides the underlying platform capabilities across advertising, security, and streaming infrastructure, FX Digital operates at the application layer. We bring deep expertise in product thinking, UX, and visual design, alongside a fundamental understanding of how audiences interact with video services across devices. Combining these strengths allows us to build intuitive user experiences directly onto Synamedia’s robust engineering foundation.
Our collaboration on GO Shorts is one example of that model in practice.
GO Shorts: designing for a mobile-first, short-form world
GO Shorts is a module within Synamedia Go, designed to help operators respond to the growing influence of short-form video on how audiences discover content.
Rather than requiring operators to create an entirely separate short-form content operation, GO Shorts can surface content from an existing catalogue in a personalised, mobile-first feed. AI identifies clips based on viewer behaviour, creating a seamless transition from short-form discovery and consumption to the full long-form title.
FX Digital worked closely with Synamedia’s product and engineering teams to lead the UX and visual design of the GO Shorts application experience.
Short-form viewing creates a very different interaction model from a traditional streaming interface. Discovery needs to happen almost instantly, browsing needs to feel natural on mobile, and moving from a short clip into a full programme should require as little friction as possible.
Our role was to translate those behaviours into a design that felt native to short-form viewing while remaining connected to the operator’s wider service.
Synamedia’s engineering team then implemented the designs, combining the user journeys we created with the scalability, reliability and operational integration required for deployment by video service providers.
The result demonstrates what the partnership can enable: specialist experience design working alongside a video platform built to operate at scale.

BFBS: transforming digital broadcasting for the UK Armed Forces
That same partnership model, combining Synamedia’s proven video technology infrastructure with FX Digital’s specialist application expertise, is currently shaping a major multi-platform ecosystem for the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS).
BFBS is a media organisation and military charity that provides trusted and secure entertainment, news, sport, and digital services for the UK Armed Forces.
Following a competitive global tender, BFBS selected Synamedia as its strategic technology partner to develop a next-generation digital platform, with FX Digital joining to lead the cross-platform design and front-end development.
This new BFBS app will serve as a unified digital ecosystem delivering live TV channels, top-tier live sports, and event broadcasts, with an evolving on-demand media library for armed forces personnel and their families worldwide.
Creating that experience presents challenges that go well beyond a conventional streaming application. The service needs to work globally across multiple platforms and device types, integrate with BFBS’s wider technology stack, and meet specific MOD-level security standards, while supporting audiences in environments ranging from homes and military bases, to naval vessels, and remote disconnected regions.
To ensure a truly tailored experience across every screen, FX Digital deployed its crack troops (i.e. engineering development teams) to build engineering dedicated to each platform ecosystem. We engineered custom front-end applications built specifically for Smart TV, mobile, tablet, and web, and introduced intuitive interactions that shift seamlessly from vertical browsing to immersive landscape playback.
This project demonstrates how robust platform engineering and expert front-end design can combine to deliver a modern, dependable streaming service anywhere in the world.
