Odido & FX Digital: Scaling TV Testing
Odido partners with FX Digital to scale TV device testing through an automation-led Testing as a Service model, running 31,000+ automated tests per release across 33 devices to accelerate delivery, increase release confidence, and ensure a consistent high-quality viewing experience.
Today’s TV viewers expect flawless experiences, anywhere, anytime, on any device. With millions of users and thousands of devices, maintaining consistent quality is essential to ensuring a seamless experience for every customer.
Odido, one of the leading telecom and media providers in the Netherlands, delivers TV, Mobile, and broadband services to millions of customers. To keep those customers happy, Odido needs to ensure they are consistently delivering high standards.
However, TV device testing poses challenges unlike any other domain. With a fragmented landscape of devices and operating systems, DRM (Digital Rights Management) requirements, performance variations, and differences in device behaviour, validating real-world performance at scale is complex.
Even with mature automation in place, Odido were finding testing across this ecosystem was time-consuming, slowing feature delivery and limiting how quickly coverage can scale. Plus, it was hard to maintain confidence in release readiness and cross-device consistency.

By adopting FX Digital’s Testing as a Service (TaaS) and leveraging FX Digital’s automation technology, Odido has been able to rethink how they test TV devices:
-
Automation has brought faster execution and more consistent and reliable results.
-
Expanding coverage has reduced errors and improved the end-user experience.
-
By partnering with FX Digital, Odido can scale quickly as new devices are released, without being limited by a lack of internal resources or space.
-
Now the Odido team can dedicate more time to other high-value testing areas that complement automation, such as complex user journeys, critical edge cases and non-functional tests.
-
And eliminating the need for an extensive, internal device lab, is more efficient and has helped Odido meet their ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) objectives.

By partnering with FX Digital, Odido have been able to introduce a model that protects quality, accelerates delivery and allows their team to focus on what truly matters: the user experience.
For Odido, The FX Digital London test automation lab now runs over 31,000 automated tests per release across 33 target devices, achieving around 90% automation coverage. The remaining consists of complex scenarios better suited to manual validation.
As well as FX Digital providing a scalable and efficient solution, Odido found that outsourcing device testing has also supported their long-term goals around: cost control, faster time-to-market and alignment with ESG objectives. And by tracking KPIs such as: device coverage, execution speed, defect trends and release confidence, Odido have been able to demonstrate tangible value and continuous improvement.

“What I truly appreciate about working together with FX is the sheer passion they put into everything they do, ranging from the smallest details to the broader strategic vision. You see it in the way they’ve designed the framework, you see it in how they operate at scale, but most importantly, you feel it in how they collaborate with our teams: they don’t just execute, they proactively contribute ideas, think alongside us, and embrace a sense of shared ownership to truly deliver the best possible experience for our end users.” – Odido
Martin Tyler, head of quality engineering, at FX Digital says: “We’re proud to have built such a strong partnership with Odido, supporting them in overcoming their testing challenges. The Odido application is exceptionally feature-rich, giving us the opportunity to fully leverage our technology – from our vision-based element detection system to AI-driven test cases, designed to handle continuously evolving EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) content.
It has been a genuinely engaging and rewarding application to onboard. The complexity of the platform pushed us to think creatively, refine our automation strategies, and demonstrate how advanced tooling can bring stability and confidence to even the most dynamic Connected TV environments.
Of course, the work doesn’t stop there. We continue to expand our FX Digital London device lab, regularly adding new TV models to ensure Odido benefits from comprehensive, scalable, and future-proof Connected TV testing coverage.”
