Eurosport Player is the live and on-demand multi-sport OTT service – available on all screens – from Eurosport, Europe’s number one sports destination and a leading Discovery, Inc. sports brand. Eurosport Player remains the only European-wide sports OTT streaming service, available in 52 markets and in 14 languages, and delivers premium video content across online, mobile and connected TVs and devices.
FX Digital worked with Eurosport to support the redevelopment of their Connected TV experience – including console applications.
Following the success of our work on Discovery’s DPlay project in 2018, FX Digital worked with Eurosport to support development of their new Connected platforms. The new Eurosport application was set to launch in Europe across 5 platforms; Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Tizen, Playstation 4 and XBox One. The project began in March, with a fixed timeline to be completed and ready for launch by October 2019.
With only 6 months to develop the experience for 5 platforms, it would be a challenge to plan, architect, build and deliver a solution that worked in each environment. Like any connected TV build, there was a multitude of moving parts to consider, from the performance of the UI and support for modern development approaches, to the specification of the video content and requirements of the player. An exceptional effort from multi-functional teams at FX Digital and Eurosport helped to ensure the success of this enormous project.
Ultimately, working to Eurosport’s design brief we helped to build a reliable and versatile video player that enabled a robust and interactive TV experience across Connected TV and console platforms. Key functionality includes user authentication, dynamic content rails, a schedule of content and search.
The entire project was delivered ahead of schedule after passing vendor testing across all vendors with very little feedback after initial application submissions.
